Where and when did you meet?
We first met online (Plenty of Fish)
We went on our first date on Jan. 31, 2015
When did you know this was the person you would marry?
Both of us had a hard time thinking of an answer to this. Neither of us can think of a specific time or moment that occurred. But there were moments that cemented our decision – some unforeseen hardships when buying our first house together, the difficult losses of two beloved pets. These moments, though difficult at the time, were made easier by our partnership and definitely strengthened our bond.
Tell us about the proposal:
It was definitely not a “typical” proposal. It was the day after we had hosted my (Meaghen’s) family for Thanksgiving dinner – but it was a few weeks after Thanksgiving, as there was some kind of scheduling conflict for the actual holiday weekend. My parents had stayed overnight, and the four of us had a great night of conversation and a good amount of wine. After my parents had left in the morning, Adrian and I went back to bed to lie down. It was then that Adrian said “the moment struck him” and he asked me to marry him, as we both lay exhausted and slightly hungover. He didn’t have a ring yet (again – he was swept up by the moment), so we went to look for one that afternoon.
How long were you dating before you got married?
We will be together for a little over 4 ½ years by the time we get married.
Tell us about your wedding:
Nothing too elaborate or over the top. Both of us are laidback and easy going, and neither of us really had a “vision” for our wedding. We just want to have a good time with the people we love.
Did the date/season have special meaning?
Nothing overly special. We both enjoy the fall, and we thought September would still (hopefully) be warm enough so people could enjoy being outside without dying of heat stroke.
What are the theme/colours and why did you choose it/them? What are some of the elements that reflect that theme (e.g. menu, décor)
We don’t have a true theme, but for our colours, we chose purple (i.e. plum), navy, and gold. I (Meaghen) have always loved the colour purple, and I think it works well as a “fall” colour. We ended up going with navy for the men’s suits, which compliments the plum quite well, so we have tried to incorporate both colours in our décor. For example, our invitations were largely navy and gold (as well as the menus). Many of the floral arrangements will incorporate the purple.
Where did you find your inspiration?
My sister has been a huge help during the wedding planning. She’s been on Pinterest constantly (and will be the first to tell you that). I have never been someone who has had a “dream wedding,” so she was a big help in giving me suggestions.
When did you begin planning your wedding? Did you encounter any roadblocks along the way?
We began planning our wedding in earnest in early 2018. Not to jinx anything at this point, but largely our wedding planning has been roadblock-free. So far we’ve been very happy with all our vendors and things have run smoothly (knock on wood).
How many guests will be attending your wedding?
104
Will you incorporate any family traditions into your wedding?
The only quasi-tradition is a handkerchief I (Meaghen) will be carrying. My paternal grandma (who has passed away) gave it to my mom when she married my dad to carry down the aisle. My mom also gave it to my sister to carry for her wedding over 10 years ago, and now I’ll be doing the same.
What’s the one thing about your wedding that you are looking forward to?
I’m (Meaghen) just looking forward to being married to my love and to have a great night with my family and friends.
Did you each know right away it was “THE dress” or had you previously tried on many other dresses?
I did find my dress at my first appointment/store, but it wasn’t the first dress I tried, and I definitely didn’t know right away. I had to think about it that night, but I also knew I had to move quickly, since it was on clearance and also discontinued, so it couldn’t be ordered. I went back with my mom the next day to try it on again, and the second time I had my “bridal moment.”
Why did you choose your reception venue?
We chose it because it was a beautiful location both inside and outside, and with Royal Ashburn, they were largely upfront with their costs, which seemed to be a rarity. Many venues we looked at had hidden fees or upgrades, but Ashburn we found to be very transparent.
