Where and when did you meet?
We met in high school in 2004. We were friends in high school and rode the bus together everyday, but we didn’t start dating until 2013.
When did you know this was the person you would marry?
Kristin: “I knew I wanted to marry Alex when he went away to law school and I had to make the choice very early in our relationship on whether or not to go with him, or stay behind. I realized that I didn’t want to be apart from him, so even though we were only dating for less than a year, I made the move to Windsor with him. I didn’t wind up staying for the entirety his 3 year program, but it proved so much to me and to us. He was the one. He was worth it all”
Alex: “I knew I wanted to marry Kristin after we spent our first trip together in Florida in 2014.”
Tell us about the proposal:
Alex: “I got up that morning and pretended to go to work as usual. I walked out the door and left an envelope on Kristin’s windshield which summarized our first year together. Throughout the day, rather than going to work I left two more envelopes for Kristin. One of them at the office in the school where she worked, summarizing our second year together and the other on her windshield in the parking lot summarizing our third year together. The final envelope was ready for Kristin when she got home that afternoon. It summarized our fourth year and other important moments from our past four years together. After she opened and read the letter, it asked her to press play on her laptop. It was the song that we had decided would be our song’ and is the song that we will dance to together for our first dance at our wedding. As it was playing, I emerged from our room and told Kristin how much she meant to me and how much I love her. Then, I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. She said yes, and here we are!
How long were you dating before you got married?
4 years exactly!
Tell us about your wedding:
It will be at Century Barn in Cavan, ON. We both picture a quaint and intimate country wedding with our family and friends. Simplicity is the theme. We are there for each other and that is what it is all about!
Did the date/season have special meaning?
Our engagement was in the Fall and that is special to us. We didn’t want to rush our engagement, so we decided to have a Spring wedding. May 25th just had a nice ring to it!
What are the theme/colours and why did you choose it/them? What are some of the elements that reflect that theme (e.g. menu, décor)
Our theme is simple and rustic. Our floral colours will be white and green with a touch of blush (the bridesmaids are wearing blush). The wedding ceremony will be in the garden outside of the barn and the reception will be inside the barn. I (Kristin) have always pictured a barn wedding, so Century Barn is perfect!
Where did you find your inspiration?
My brain! – Kristin
When did you begin planning your wedding? Did you encounter any roadblocks along the way?
We began almost right away. We looked for barn venues in the area and settled on Century Barn the week after we were engaged! We fell in love!
How many guests will be attending your wedding?
140 (including the wedding party!)
Wedding is at Century Barn (400 Stewart Line, Cavan, ON L0A 1C0)
